Donations for Makerspaces Needed

We are in need of donations for our Makerspaces in the library.  If you could donate used Legos, Matchbox cars, playing cards, or floral picks / floral arrangements, we will be adding these to our stations.  We could also use PVC pipe (1 1/2 inch) as well as nuts and bolts.  We are also in need of craft supplies such as papermaking/ scrapbooking papers, specialty scissors, and paper punches.  You can drop off these items in the library.  Thank you for your support of creativity!

MakerSpaces and Maker Time

This year is the second year of MakerSpaces.  These are stations where the students can create, tinker, and innovate.  Mrs. Kriner will also be offering classes in STEM and STEAM using materials in the library.  Classroom teachers can sign up to bring their classes to learn about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) or Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math/ Music (STEAM) throughout the year.  We are excited to purchase supplies that will allow students to learn about coding, robotics, and engineering through a grant.

Students have the opportunity to come to the library for 10 minutes throughout the day for "Maker Time."  The classroom teachers may have a schedule of when students come or students can earn "Maker Time" from the teacher.  Some stations include: KNEX; LEGOS;  Tinkertoys; Gears, Gears, Gears; Ribbon Weaving; Marble Mazes and Marble Runs; Origami; Drawing; Cardboard Art; Tumbling Tower (a Jenga-like game); Checkers; Dominoes; and the Wii.  We will be adding more stations based on student feedback.

Please feel free to stop by and tinker during our open house.  We will have several challenges set up for families to play together.

We are always looking for talented volunteers who want to share their hobby or skill.  If you are interested in teaching students about your trade or hobby, please let Mrs. Kriner know.
