reading scholarship program
The Florida Legislature this year created the Reading Scholarship Account program to help public school students in third through fifth grade who are struggling readers. This program offers parents access to education savings accounts, worth $500 each, to pay for part-time tutoring, summer and after-school literacy programs, instructional materials, and curriculum related to reading or literacy.
Who is eligible? Third through fifth grade public school students who scored a 1 or 2 on the third or fourth grade English language arts section of the Florida Standards Assessment in the prior year.
Applications are open now. The Reading Scholarship Account Program is administered by non-profit scholarship funding organizations approved by the Department. For the 2020-21 school year, Step Up For Students is the only SFO administering the program.
Parents and guardians may apply online by first going to the Step Up for Students website here and clicking the 'Apply Now' button. They will need their child’s FLEID number and will be asked to upload their child’s Florida Standards Assessment report when applying. Scholarships are being distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
